I’m having a hard time writing tonight, for the first time. I have a headache, born of poor sleep (the dog is not feeling well, and needs to be let out when I need to be sleeping) and too much time on a laptop today. My day job requires a lot of time on a laptop, but it’s usually broken up more with meetings and today I spent too much time hunched over the keyboard.
Luckily, I wrote more last night, so my word count target won’t be missed. I’m at 23,584 just now and I haven’t given up for the night. I just came over here to whine that my head hurts.
The book has a definite shape to it now, I’ve written enough to see what is left to be done. I’m realizing that as much as I’m enjoying a background subplot, it’s not going to be able to finish in this novel. It would take too long, and the characters seem to be moving along at their own pace. So I’m making some adjustments. I imagine that after a few books, authors have a better sense of how much they can fit into one. I’ll just have to learn as I go.
So that cost me some words, as I had to take out some things that weren’t going to resolve. Luckily, I wrote a lot yesterday, it was Sunday.
Oh and random note – I apparently needed to tell this blog where I am, because the server time and my time are not the same – so the date/time stamps for when I publish these things are not reliable. Random observation.
OK, back to it. Dog says hi.
