I’ve mentioned before that I have to set goals for myself to stay on track with the writing. Typically, if I can focus on the work, I can get two hours of writing in between dinner and bedtime.
This week my real job required my attention in the evenings, though, so there just wasn’t much time. The other thing I’ve noticed is that if I work too late at my real job, I have trouble sleeping that night – I guess because there wasn’t enough time to decompress. It’s also very hard to write when I’m extremely behind in sleep, so this was a bumpy week.
I started my first re-read of the first book yesterday, though. It’s a little tough to focus – I liked writing the book, I felt like I was discovering the story as I wrote it. Editing, on the other hand, is like re-reading a book that I just finished reading, and is not my jam. Maybe if I was more patient, and could write 3-4 books before revisiting the first one? I suspect there’s a rhythm to this that I just haven’t found yet.
But since some of the characters in Book are also in Book Two (still the names), I do need to at least tie up anything that has shifted now that Book Two is coming together, or it’ll bug me.
